On Thursday May 23, 2019 the Governor of Sint Maarten, His Excellency Eugene Holiday accompanied by Lady Holiday visited the picturesque town of Soufriere and the Pitons Management Area (PMA). The visit to the PMA was specially requested by His Excellency as part of his first official visit to Saint Lucia.
Upon arrival in Soufriere, his Excellency was warmly welcomed by Town officials including the Mr. Pius Gangardine, Mayor of Soufriere-Fond St. Jacques, the Inspector Pamela Alexander, Officer in Charge at the Soufriere Police Station, Mr. Franklin Solomon, General Manager of the Soufriere Regional Development Foundation; and Mr. Michael Bob, General Manager, Soufriere Marine Management Association Inc, Mrs. Pauline Prospere, Education Officer for District 8 encompassing the Soufriere District and environs; and Augustine Dominique, Manager at the PMA Office who had been given the responsibility to coordinate plans for the visit.
Following the brief welcoming meeting with town officials, Governor Holiday and his entourage enjoyed lunch and a brief tour of the Fond Doux Plantation Resort; where they were given a quick tour of the property by proprietor Mr. Leyton Lamontagne. From there the party were taken on a tour of the scenic Tet Paul Nature Trail. The final stop on the tour was a brief stop at the world-renowned Sulphur Springs Park.
Governor and Lady Holiday expressed their gratitude for the reception received and indicated that they were left in awe by the stunning beauty of the Pitons Management Area and the Soufriere region in general.
